James Gunn Slams Fan Who Asked Him Not to Bring GotG to DCU

When James Gunn left Marvel to become DC Studios' new co-CEO, he made sure that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would give the team the incredible iteration that they deserved. However, given his fondness for the core group, Gunn hinted that he might work with the crew again under DC at some point.

“This cast is like my family,” Gunn said to Empire Magazine. “I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. Probably at my other job.”

Following his statement, fans have expressed mixed feelings, with some expressing excitement to see the director and Guardians team working together again, while others have revealed disapproval with the initiative to bring Marvel stars to the DCU.

User @nonstudios wrote, “Please do not encourage #GotG cast to follow you to DCU. Find fresh actors that can craft brilliant characters and forge new memories for audiences, instead of swimming in the same muddy pond. I know I am not alone in feeling this way. Rebirth, not reuse. Please.”

In response, Gunn answered, “We have hundreds of roles to cast. As I’ve always done, some will be brand new faces, some will be actors I’ve worked with before, [and] some will be actors you know who I’ve never worked with. What matters most is the actor fits the role [and] they’re easy to work with.”

DC Studios previously decided not to go forward with Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson for their respective roles, and recently, Jason Momoa broke his silence on whether he has a future in DCU’s new management. With Gunn and Peter Safran’s major plans for the franchise still unknown, anything can happen at this point.

Gunn has only one answer for fans who want to know when the new slate will be announced: this month. Fans have no choice but to wait and see if some of their questions will be given their respective answers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit cinemas on May 5, 2023.
