Hugh Jackman Addresses Taron Egerton's Wolverine Casting Rumors

Given his noteworthy range as an actor, Hugh Jackman has already made his name in the cinematic world, particularly when he assumed the role of X-Men mutant Wolverine. Despite initially leaving his post and now finally returning to reprise his role, a list of names has already been thrown around in the selection of who is fitting enough to succeed him as the muscular animal, and the actor broke his silence in one of the casting rumors.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Jackman responded to rumors that Rocketman actor Taron Egerton is being eyed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's role of Wolverine. With the actor from The Greatest Showman returning to stretch his claws in Deadpool 3, he may have appeared defensive to rumors that someone else would step in to replace him.

“Taron is one of the most talented actors out there. And you can see his range is incredible. But he's just got to cool his heels a little bit.” he underscored.

Jackman starred as Wolverine for 17 years, starting with Fox's X-Men in 2000 and spanning all the way until Logan in 2017. When his adamantium metal claws met their demise in the last mentioned superhero film, Jackman stepped away from his character for a while before he announced last year that he would be returning opposite Ryan Reynolds for the third installment of Deadpool 3, which excites most fans.

The Les Miserables star previously opened up about his regrets about leaving the solitary mutant, which made him come back as soon as he had the chance. “If I’m honest, twenty minutes into the Deadpool movie, all I kept seeing was 48 Hrs., the Nick Nolte/Eddie Murphy movie. I was like ‘Damnit, damnit. What have I done? What have I done? Nope, you said no. That’s it. It’s done, ok, I’m done.'” Jackman narrated.

Despite not confirming if he’s now going to stay for good, the fans can look forward to Deadpool and Wolverine’s team-up, which will offer a different tone in the MCU. Chances are that Egerton met with Kevin Feige after publicly expressing interest in the role, and Jackman may be forced to pass the torch to Earth-616's own Wolverine.
