Fans Stir Up Debate Over Rumored Front-Runner for DCU's Superman

The discussion on who could ever equal the dashingness of Henry Cavill as Superman is far from over. Since Cavill's departure from DC last year, fans have been debating who will be the next Warner Bros. Superman, so whoever ends up succeeding him will have to live up to standards and expectations as high as mountains.

Despite the long list of rumored actors vying for the iconic red cape, a recent entry from an anonymous source claims that a certain Australian actor who appeared in a Netflix rom-com and is currently on HBO's show is reportedly the prospective new Superman, and it’s no other than The Kissing Booth and Euphoria's Jacob Elordi.

More often than not, rumors turn out to be just plain gossip, but this so-called Deuxmoi did appeal before Lady Gaga joined Joker: Folie a Deux and Barry Keoghan as Joker in The Batman, both of which turned out to be correct, so some believe there may be some truth to this case. However, most fans just aren't that easy to convince.

Elordi was initially reported to be competing to be the next James Bond before the announcement that Aaron Taylor-Johnson might have gotten the part already. Some DCU detractors are assured that the young actor is auditioning for the role of Superman, but this does not guarantee that the big bosses will give him the nod.

“Before anyone panics: this is most likely his agent, who did the same thing months ago claiming he was up for Bond (he auditioned, sure, but Aaron Taylor Johnson got the part). Jacob is 100% auditioning, that doesn’t mean Gunn and Safran want him.” commented @RealZucc2020

DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed in December that he’s writing the next Superman movie and revealed that it'll focus on a younger Superman and Clark Kent (Superman's alter ego) as part of his reboot DCEU. With this, fans have begun to fan-cast younger actors who would be deemed fit for the description.

Aside from Elordi, The Politician's David Corenswet, Adam DiMarco of The Order, and Normal People's Paul Mescal are the names that have been thrown out a lot to assume the role of the younger superman.

Fans will continue to debate and campaign on who they believe is the best casting for the next Man of Steel until Gunn announces his Superman.
