Isle of the Dead Release Date, Spoilers & Update: New BTS Shows Negan, Maggie at Each Other's Throats

The popular characters Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will be the focus of a spinoff series that AMC announced in March 2022.

Isle of the Dead is one of The Walking Dead's most eagerly awaited spinoffs, despite some fans criticizing AMC for "spoiling" Maggie and Negan's Walking Dead fates because the main series can't kill them off now that they've been confirmed for another series.

Isle of the Dead BTS Sees Negan & Maggie Clash

Cohen and Morgan can be seen recording a scene for Isle of the Dead in a behind-the-scenes video posted to Twitter by @jessxo199. Maggie looks to have hit Negan with a car before the two fight briefly.

Maggie quickly obtains the upper hand and seems to put a knife to Negan's throat while Negan tries to attack Maggie with a tire iron. The altercation, however, is short-lived, with Maggie shoving Negan aside and walking away.

Despite the fact that Maggie and Negan will be co-starring in the spinoff series, it is not surprising that the first impression fans have of their relationship is tense. After their tenuous peace in season 11 of The Walking Dead, tensions between Maggie and Negan remain high in the spinoff series.

Isle of the Dead Release Date

Six episodes of The Walking Dead spinoff are scheduled to air starting in 2023.

Since so few characters from The Walking Dead have lasted across several seasons, Maggie and Negan are one of the only enduring characters with some significant history.

During the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, Negan brutally murdered Maggie's husband, Glenn in front of her. Maggie was pregnant at the time and gave birth to Hershel, her and Glenn's child, whom Maggie had to raise on her own.

Maggie and Hershel confronted Negan in Season 11, nearly killing him multiple times in order to revenge Glenn's death.

With filming for Isle of the Dead well underway, fans will only have to wait another year to see if Maggie and Negan can come to terms or if one of them will ultimately crack.
