After the successes of Tom Hollands' portrayal of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fans are looking forward to the third installment of the new Spider-Mans films. However, it's looking unlikely that Tom Holland will be the only Spider-Man featured in it!
We first saw a live-action Spider-Man come to see the screen in Sam Rami's version of Spider-Man in 2002. Due to the success of the first Spider-Man film, the franchise went to spawn two more films Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3 which all reached the top 100 highest-grossing box office films of all time. But what happened to the Spider-Man in this universe after he successfully defeated Venom, Sandman, and rekindled his friendship with a dying Harry Osborn? We may just find out in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Why Tobey Maguire could appear in Spider-Man
In a recent interview with comicbook.com, while promoting WandaVision, Marvel Studios Director Kevin Feige claimed that the best hint that he can give about the up-and-coming Spider-Man film is from the title of the up-and-coming Doctor Strange film - Doctor Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness. The Multiverse was first hinted at in Spider-Man Far From Home in a conversation between Peter Parker and Mysterio. However, this second hint from Feige bout the integration of a multiverse seems to give a strong indication that in a live-action Spideyverse film could be expected, meaning Tobey Maguire could portray the web-slinger once more.
JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson
At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, we see J Jonah Jameson announcing to the public footage that Spider-Man killed Mysterio, but also that Spider-Man's identity is Peter Parker. The most shocking part of that footage wasn't necessarily the fact that Spider-Man's secret identity was being revealed to the public but that J Jonah Jameson was being played by the epic JK Simmons who played the angry news editor in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy. Could this be a hint that the universes of the two will collide?
Tobey Maguire's Stunt Double on Set?
George J Cottle (Stunt co-ordinator on No Way Home) may have given us a huge clue towards Maguire's involvement when he thanked in a tweet the help of both William Spencer (Andrew Garfields Stunt double on Amazing Spider-Man) and Chris Daniels (Tobey Maguire's Stunt Doubt in Spider-Man). As well as this there has been a deleted Instagram post between Gregg Townley (stunt double for Tom Holland) and William Spencer making fans believe that all the Spider-Man stunt doubles could only be coming together because all 3 Spider-Men will appear in one movie, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Costume Fitting
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, rumors have spread about the paparazzi taking shots of Tobey Maguire before and after a costume fitting. It is said that his before and after-fits shots look quite different, and due to Maguire not having any other films in his upcoming schedule, the rumors that it must be for his Spidey outfit are starting to feel more true.
Andrew Garfield in the latest Spider-Man film
Alongside Tobey Maguire, fans are also under the impression that because of his stunt double being part of the team, that Andrew Garfield is likely to be in No Way Home portraying his version from The Amazing Spider-Man.
However, in a casual interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he openly denied his involvement with the film in any way saying "Listen, I can't speak for anyone else, they might be doing something, but I ain't got a call."
However, when asked again for a clear "Yes or No" answer, Garfield simply stated that "I did not get a call" followed by "I feel like I would have had a call by now".
Fans therefore still have their suspicion about whether he will be in the upcoming Spider-man film or not.
Doctor Octopus is in Spider-Man No Way Home!
Despite there being no firm evidence that Tobey Maguire is in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in an interview with Variety, Alfred Molina who played the 4 tentacled Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2, has confirmed that he will be appearing in No Way Home! Because this character has been confirmed, it's becoming harder to believe that the film will feature Doctor Octopus from that spider-verse without Tobey Maguire as well.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 17, 2021, as part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we couldn't be more excited!
