Just a few days ago, Showtime announced that it will no longer be renewing Dexter: New Blood for a second season. And as revealed today, it looks like the premium channel has other plans for the Dexter franchise.
When Dexter: New Blood came out in 2021, it excited avid fans who have been hoping for a better ending than the original show; which ran from 2006 to 2013.
But in the series finale, we see Dexter Morgan's son, Harrison (played by Jack Alcott), following in his father's footsteps. Only this time, Harrison decides to kill his own father, Dexter (played by Michael C. Hall), after a series of murders in town. And as it turns out, this disappointed more fans.
So what's in Dexter's (the franchise) future? Apparently, a lot.
Are They Making Another Dexter Spinoff Show?
The good news is that Showtime has other better plans for Dexter fans.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Showtime has ordered a new TV series that will be an origin story for the serial killer with a conscience.
In addition to a young Dexter spinoff, there will be another show that will reveal the back story of other characters who played a vital role in the story. One of these characters we can expect to know more about is the Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow), who was one of Dexter's most challenging adversaries.
According to the report, Dexter showrunner, Clyde Phillips, will play an important role in developing the young Dexter spinoff series. This show will again be set in Miami and will also "touch on stories of real-life serial killers of the time period."
When Will the Young Dexter Spinoff Show Be Released?
So far, this is all we know about the Dexter spinoff shows that Showtime has planned for its fans. There is no announcement yet on when these shows will be released and what the official titles will be.
