Dexter: New Blood Season 2 Release Date, News & Update: Industry Veteran Shares Thoughts On Potential Continuation

It goes without saying that Dexter fans will always want the show to continue despite our favorite serial killer forever gone (but never forgotten, of course). Showtime doesn't appear to have any active plans for a Dexter: New Blood Season 2 at the moment, but composer Pat Irwin is open to returning to the franchise if it does.

Pat Irwin is ready for Dexter: New Blood Season 2

Dexter: New Blood was a huge hit for Showtime, depicting Dexter Morgan's life after he went missing eight years earlier during a hurricane. He was discovered to be living in a new location under a fake identity, but all went apart when the unexpected homecoming of his son Harrison.

In the end, after discovering the heinous nature of his father's deeds, Harrison shot and killed Dexter and fled.

The ending suggests a continuation of the franchise, but will Irwin return to compose music for Dexter: New Blood Season 2?

“Oh, man, I would definitely return,” he told Horror Buzz. “I think it would be a new show.”

“I don’t have a clue what the plans are if any, but I think I would want it to be a little more tuneful and melodic,” the composer said of his work.

Will Showtime greenlight Dexter: New Blood Season 2?

After Dexter: New Blood, Showtime hinted at the prospect of future episodes. Fans can't understand why Dexter: New Blood Season 2 wouldn't be made after the show's success. Showtime, on the other hand, stated that it was not considering it at this time.

Showtime’s entertainment president Gary Levine told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published in February that the network’s goal was to give the original series a “proper conclusion.”

As for the Dexter actor himself, he appears well contented with how his character ended.

“The way the season concludes is one that resonates with me,” Michael C. Hall, who played the serial killer, told The Los Angeles Times. “It feels justifiable. As upsetting as it may be, I hope audiences will appreciate the resonance of Dexter dying this way at the hands of his son.
