Peach Boy Riverside might not be one of Crunchyroll's most popular series, with only 3 stars but it does have its fans, but this is not to say it doesn't have its fans, with several 5-star reviews. A common complaint about the show is that the intentional mix-up of the episodes is confusing and unnecessary, so could a Peach Boy Riverside manga or light novel help with the confusion?

First, a short overview; Peach Boy Riverside is a mythology-rich 12-episode anime by Studio Asahi Production. It follows Princess Saltorine Aldike, better known as Sally, who is bored of life in her castle – as your typical shonen hero will be. Her life changes when her home is attacked by oni – demons in Japanese – and she's saved by the mysterious Kibitsu Mikoto, who uses a mysterious power known as peach eye.

The concept utilizes the myth of Momotaro, a boy who was born from a giant peach and was found floating down the river by his foster parents-to-be.

Unfortunately, many viewers haven't appreciated the fact that a fantasy anime, rooted in Japanese folklore, tried to be Modernist by having its episodes intentionally out of order. While the idea isn't necessarily bad, it can be needlessly confusing for the average fantasy fan. So, is there any solution for those who want to make sense of Peach Boy Riverside?

It seems that the ongoing manga by Coolkyousinnjya might be the answer. It's been serialized since 2015, and as of 2021, there are 10 volumes, of which 6 can be found in English. The manga does not use the same confusing structure, meaning that it can help you better understand the anime, and watch the latter as supplementary material if you're hooked.

If you're considering giving the anime a try, you can watch it with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, as the dub is not available yet. Also on Crunchyroll, you can watch To Your Eternity and Aquatope of White Sand.
