Sony Pictures just released our first official look at Marvel's Madame Web, and considering that it also involves Cassandra Webb's clairvoyance, does that mean Madame Web is a part of the MCU? Here's where the Spider-Heroine's story takes place in the canon timeline of the billion-dollar franchise.
When Does Madame Web Take Place in the MCU?
The world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a complicated thing to pinpoint. See, the presence of the franchise's Multiverse means alternate dimensions and realities also happen to exist on the timeline.
Now, with Sony Pictures unleashing the official trailer of Madame Web, this changes things: is the Spider-Heroine's story a part of the MCU timeline
Since Dakota Johnson's Madame Web is introducing another Spider hero on the big screen, the origin story of Madame Web and Julia Carpenter may not have any importance in the big MCU continuity yet.
Take note that Sony Pictures has its own Spider-Man Universe with the Venom franchise, Kraven the Hunter, as well as Miles Morales' Spider-Verse trilogy and the classic Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield).
But since Venom and Eddie Brock technically made an appearance in the post-credit scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, then surely, there's a chance that Madame Web is canon in the franchise, yes?

So, is Madame Web Canonically a Part of the MCU Timeline?
Here's what the Madame Web movie is going to tell on the big screens in 2024, which you can check out below:
"'Meanwhile, in another universe...' In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures... if they can all survive a deadly present."
As per the synopsis, the events of Madame Web occur 'in another universe,' which means that the Sony Pictures film is outside the MCU timeline, and quite possibly, apart from the SSU, as well.
Is Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) Canon in the MCU?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly accommodating the other Marvel characters existing outside of the franchise. As of writing, the mutants are slowly entering Marvel, starting with Deadpool 3.
However, it's worth mentioning that The Marvels' post-credit scenes already introduced the first FoxVerse mutant, Mr. Beast.
It would be only a matter of time before more mutants become canon, which may also include the other Spider-Man heroes from the Sony Universe.
