Attack on Titan is a manga series illustrated and written by Hajime Isayama. The manga was truly a success even before it was adapted into an anime.

In fact, in December 2019, it sold more than 100 million tankobon copies in print. Not only in Japan, but worldwide. This earned Attack on Titan the title of being one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

In addition, the manga won awards like Harvey Award, the Attilio Micheluzzi Award, and the Kodansha Manga Award. The success of the manga paved way for the anime, novel, spin-off, and live-action to be made.

The Attack on Titan manga was first released in 2009, and it ended its eleven-year publication in 2021 with chapter 139 as the final chapter. Before the finale, it was announced that the manga will get a full-color serialization which is great news for fans.

The success of Attack on Titan’s manga was remarkable. Six of its seven volumes were published in North America, take note, these are English volumes, were part of The New York Times Manga Best Seller list on October 13, 2013. Volume one of the manga was on the list for a total of 81 weeks straight.

While it is unfortunate that the manga is complete, fans will still get to see their favorite characters in the anime adaptation. Season four part two of Attack on Titan made its premiere in January 2022.

The franchise is still growing and as more and more people continue to love Attack on Titan, there is a possibility for more types of media to be made in the future.

Critics have claimed that what made Attack on Titan different from other anime is that it elaborates the “hopelessness felt by young people”. There is always a mystery that will get viewers hooked on the series. Even better, it tackles various issues that are not covered by typical shows.
