The spring anime season has officially begun with the premieres of Aharen-san wa Hakarenai and Komi Can't Communicate Season 2. Because both of these shows are airing concurrently, anime viewers are quick to notice how Aharen-san wa Hakarenai's premise is similar to Komi Can't Communicate's. As a result, viewers naturally wondered, is Aharen-san wa Hakarenai similar to Komi Can't Communicate?
What is Aharen-san wa Hakarenai About?
In case you missed it, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai describes the struggles of the undecipherable and unfathomable Aharen in communicating with others, let alone measuring the proper distance towards others when she becomes overly excited.
Apparently, Aharen had a bad experience at school where she became too friendly with her classmates and was kicked out of the circle. As a result, this event traumatizes her to the point where she is overly concerned with her social skills. When she decides to step out of her comfort zone and reach out to others, her social skills are frequently hampered by her creeping anxiety.
Fortunately, Aharen's school life will not be the same as Raidou, her new classmate is very interested in understanding her behavior. Not only does Raidou wants to improve his high school life by making new friends and having fun, but he also wants to be Aharen's new friend.
What is Komi Can’t Communicate About?
Komi Can't Communicate, on the other hand, follows the struggles of Shoko Komi, the most popular and beautiful girl in school, who has a communication disorder that causes her inability to engage in a fluid conversation with other people. While the entire school regards her as a goddess, Komi-san must deal with her extreme anxiety and also with her odd classmates.
Komi-san's classmate Hitohito Tadano, inadvertently discovers her anxiety one fateful day, as the latter's defining characteristic is his ability to accurately read the situation.
As a result, Tadano offers to assist Komi in achieving her goal of having 100 friends during her high school years. As the series progresses, one character after another enters the picture and eventually becomes a part of Komi's inner circle.
Is Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Similar to Komi Can’t Communicate?
True, Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is fairly similar to Komi-san. They are unable to communicate in terms of plot and characters. Both of these shows focus on Aharen-san and Komi-san's communication disorders, as they both strive to connect with others as much as possible and whenever they can. While Aharen-san is nearly inaudible, Komi-san remains silent and only uses her pen and paper to converse.
They are not, however, that similar in terms of background, as the reason for Komi-san's communication and social anxiety is still unknown. While Aharen-san wa Hakarenai confirms Aharen-san's trauma in Episode 1 after getting a glimpse of the flashback from her past, Komi-san, as seen in the anime, most likely inherits her father's aloof and introverted personality.
Another point of comparison is the male lead in both of these shows. Whereas Aharen-san has Raidou-kun to help her, Tadano comes to Komi-san's aid. Furthermore, Raidou and Tadano are seated next to the two lovely female protagonists.
They are also important in the plot and character development of Aharen-san and Komi-san. Aside from hitting it off the bat, their chemistry with one another is a sure sign that these collaborations will grow into something more in the future.
Komi Can't Communicate, on the other hand, features a diverse cast of characters who are introduced one after the other. Meanwhile, in Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, it appears that the story will focus solely on Raidou and Aharen's relationship in short sequences.
In any case, both Aharen-san wa Hakarenai and Komi Can't Communicate are lighthearted anime shows that are so relaxing viewers may want to find their own aloof and introverted seatmates.
