Idris Elba Discusses Heimdall's Future After Thor: Love and Thunder

Heimdall might be long gone but that didn't stop the all-seeing Asgardian from showing up in Thor: Love and Thunder. So does this mean that the character still has a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Idris Elba discussed Heimdall's possible return in more MCU projects.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, Heimdall appeared in the end-credits scene when he welcomes Jane Foster into Valhalla. In addition to that, it looked like his son Astrid (who renamed himself Axl) had inherited Heimdall's all-seeing eyes, suggesting that there could be a new commander of the Bifrost.

But what are the chances that Heimdall will be back? Idris Elba recently spoke to Collider where he addressed the possibility of returning as the Asgardian but in the afterlife.

“Pretty much his whole sort of like arsenal of gifts have been tapped into one way or another. He’s all-seeing, you know. But he’s quite a warrior. We’ve seen him as a warrior as well, and he has an immortality around him and that would be something that we haven’t really explored so that I think may be interesting,” Elba said.

He then teased that anything could happen. “Hey, listen, you know, the Marvel world is ever-expanding. You just never know,” Elba said.

We're loving the idea of seeing more of Heimdall in the future. After all, it presents the opportunity of revisiting the other fallen Asgardians as well as Valhalla. However, it is still unclear whether there will be more Thor films in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Thor: Love and Thunder was directed by Taika Waititi and also stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan. The film has grossed over $699 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2022.
