After a years-long hiatus, Hunter x Hunter finally came back with Chapter 391, and its return came with an unexpected crossover as fans discovered just yesterday.
Specifically, the newest chapter of Hunter x Hunter was released online through Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app internationally in English.
When fans opened the chapter, they were in for a surprise as its cover features a guest appearance from an iconic Yu Yu Hakusho character.
Hunter x Hunter’s Long-Awaited Return
In case you’re unfamiliar, Hunter x Hunter is a manga series by Yoshihiro Togashi that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump back in March 1998.
Since then, the series has become one of Shueisha’s best-selling titles, with over 84 million copies in circulation as of July 2022.
While the series was initially released at a consistent weekly pace, it went on several hiatus periods starting in 2005 due to Togashi’s declining health. Prior to its return, the last Hunter x Hunter chapter was released in 2018.
This last hiatus is the longest of the series so far, so its return was celebrated by fans all over the world.
The series’ return follows the manga status updates that Togashi began sharing earlier this year through his personal Twitter account.
While the manga is finally back in serialization, there’s no word yet on how many chapters will be released before it goes on another break.
Given Togashi’s updates, it’s possible that we’ll get 10 new chapters at the minimum.
Along with its return, Shueisha also announced Volume 37 which will be released this November. This new volume features Morena Prudo on the cover.
Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho Crossover
As for the recent chapter crossover, Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391 features a special cover illustration in color that features Gon Freecs alongside Yu Yu Hakusho protagonist Yusuke Urameshi.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Yu Yu Hakusho is a manga series also created by Togashi that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1994.
The series was Togashi’s first major shonen hit and it proved to be popular enough that it received an anime series adaptation.
While Gon and Yusuke share the new chapter cover, Yusuke himself does not make an appearance in the events of the chapter.
Hunter x Hunter Chapter 392 is set to release on October 30 via the Shonen Jump app and Manga Plus internationally.
The chapter will be available in Japan in the next Weekly Shonen Jump issue.
