Arata Nitta is a student at the Kyoto Jujutsu High. He's in his first year of studies and has an older sister, Akari, to whom he bears great resemblance.

As a quiet and mild-mannered boy, he's the perfect foil for the loud, flamboyant Aoi Todo with whom he arrives at Shibuya.

So, just how strong is Nitta? JJK hasn't given him enough screen time to demonstrate the full extent of his abilities, but he seems like one of Kyoto Jujutsu High's wild cards.

After all, Mechamaru chose him and Aoi Todo as the only Kyoto students powerful enough to make a real difference in Shibuya.

Interestingly, what makes Arata Nitta so powerful isn't his combat skills, as he doesn't appear to have many.

As a first-year student, he isn't very experienced, nor is he the strongest. In a shounen anime where one's value in battle is largely defined by physical strength, Nitta has different powers.

In particular, his innate cursed technique acts as a stabilizer and a pain killer, which can be very helpful in battle even if he doesn't personally participate in combat.

When he arrives at Shibuya, he stabilizes Nobara's wounds to prevent her from getting any worse.

He admits that she did not have a pulse when he tried to heal her, but since her death was so recent, he hopes that he may be able to help her more, although he is not certain that it'll work.

Before taking Nobara away to safety, Nitta also helps Yuji Itadori. While his power doesn't allow him to completely heal wounds, Nitta is able to make a wounded person's condition stable, such as by stopping the bleeding.

Provided that the combatant isn't too unwell, Nitta's technique will take away their pain, enough for them to go back to battle.

That being said, Nitta is unable to prevent new injuries from happening after his technique has been applied.

Overall, Arata Nitta is far from the strongest character in Jujutsu Kaisen. However, he plays a key role in the Shibuya Incident in his own little way.

Not only does he give us some slim hope about Nobara's case but he also allows Yuji to fight again, which decides the outcome of the battle against Mahito.
