The latest Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 episode is emotional and leaves Kasumi Miwa's fate ambiguous. So, does Miwa die? For a jujutsu sorcerer, her fate might be even worse.

Who Is Kasumi Miwa?
In case you need a refresher, Kasumi Miwa is a Year 2 student at Kyoto Jujutsu High.
In Season 1, she's seen clerking for Principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji and gets to take a picture with Gojo.
During the Goodwill arc, she fights Maki Zenin, before getting a call from Mechamaru and being put to sleep by Inumaki.
Does Miwa Die?
While Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 20 seems to mark Miwa for death, the Kyoto jujutsu sorcerer survives the Shibuya Incident but pays a dear price for getting involved.
On her way to Shibuya, Miwa talks to the Mechamaru earpiece. She finds out that, initially, Mechamaru only alerted Nitta and Todo about the Shibuya Incident, as he thought they were the only ones who could help.
Miwa is offended, thinking that Mechamaru deemed her and her fellow Kyoto students too weak. A vision of Muta tells Miwa that he simply wanted her to be safe.
Miwa's solitary train scene might look like a death omen, especially since the soft animation makes the scene dreamy and almost supernatural. Her sacrifice, however, will not cost her her life, but something else.
From the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, we know that the Kyoto students, including Miwa, will try to ambush Pseudo-Geto.
When things become tough, Miwa takes a binding vow; swearing not to use a katana, her signature weapon, ever again, as she attacks Pseudo-Geto with everything she has.
While she survives her ordeal, Pseudo-Geto gets away, so her sacrifice doesn't amount to much.
What Does Miwa Do After Shibuya?
Following the Shibuya Incident, the manga doesn't feature Miwa very much. She does, however, appear during the Culling Game arc.
Although she barely has any power without her sword, she enters a colony on her own.
Later, we learn that she survived, and she's one of the many jujutsu sorcerers who watch Gojo's endgame battle against Sukuna.
When the remaining sorcerers try to come up with a plan against Sukuna, realizing that all or most of them will need to fight, Miwa is excluded or at least saved as a very last resort.
Since Miwa's cursed energy was never all that strong, her inability to use a sword means that she could die very easily.
Even if she survives to the end of the shounen anime and manga in the long run, her career as a jujutsu sorcerer is likely over.
