Horimiya fans are in for a treat this summer as aside from the anime making a return, a bonus Horimiya manga volume will also be released with extra chapters.
This upcoming bonus volume won’t just be a repackage of previous chapters though. Instead, it will include new chapters, with one being made by the series’ original creator Hero.
The upcoming volume was announced in the latest issue of Monthly G Fantasy, and it revealed that the new volume will be released alongside the new anime in July.
Horimiya Anime Returns in Summer 23
While the Horimiya anime and manga have both ended, there are still more stories to tell in the series’ world as a new season of the romance anime was announced previously.
Titled Horimiya -piece-, this anime won’t be a sequel to the first season though. After all, the first season already had a definitive ending that’s based on the manga.
Instead, the upcoming season will animate selected parts of the manga that were not adapted in the first season.
While the first season covered the important parts of the Horimiya manga, because it was only 13 episodes long, many scenes had to be cut. These include the Sports Festival arc which was highlighted in the show’s trailer.
Even if it has been over a year since the anime ended, CloverWorks has returned to anime in the new season. Also returning are the original cast members, including Haruka Tomatsu as Hori and Koki Uchiyama as Miyamura.
What happened to Horimiya is reminiscent of The Quintessential Quintuplets which is also getting a new anime that adapts some of the skipped parts from the source material.

Horimiya Bonus Volume 17 to Release this Summer
As for the manga, the new Horimiya bonus 17th volume will include four new chapters, with one being made by series creator Hero.
The fact that Hero is returning is interesting given the series’ history. Horimiya started as a four-panel web manga by Hero, and it was subsequently adapted into another manga with a standard format by Daisuke Hagiwara.
It’s not clear if these new chapters will take place after the end. Though what was confirmed is that these new chapters will be serialized in Monthly G Fantasy.
The Horimiya bonus manga volume will be released in Japan on July 18, 2023. There’s no word on an international release date for it yet.
