The series’ story ended with the anime film, so it was a surprise to find out that The Quintessential Quintuplets is getting a new anime project. This new anime was announced at a recent fan event for the series in Yokohama, Japan.

Despite both the manga and the anime’s story being wrapped up, The Quintessential Quintuplets continues to be popular, at least if the release of new merch is anything to go by.

Because of this, it’s not too surprising to see the series get another anime, though it won’t be an original sequel.

While there are lots of harem rom-com anime being released every season, The Quintessential Quintuplets became one of the most popular in the genre over the past couple of years.

One likely reason for this is its unique premise where the protagonist is confirmed to marry one of five quintuplet sisters.

This gives the show a stronger hook as many viewers wanted to know who ends up getting together.

After two seasons which were interestingly animated by different studios, the anime’s story ended with The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie which was released last year.

The film skipped a fair amount of content from Negi Haruba's manga, though what’s important is that it gave the series a conclusion – something that many rom-com anime adaptations don’t get.

While it’s great that the anime got a proper conclusion, it proved to be quite controversial as many fans were disappointed by whom the main character Fuutarou ended up marrying.

Despite the divisive ending, the series continues to be popular, enough that a new anime is coming soon that will cover some of the stories in the manga that were skipped.

New Quintessential Quintuplets Anime Release Date

This upcoming anime was revealed at a fan event for the series in Yokohama that happened over the weekend. The announcement came with a reveal trailer that featured a collection of short clips.

Not a lot of footage was included in the trailer, though a key visual for the anime was also shared, featuring the five Nakano siblings in veils. Check it out here:

Currently, there’s no word yet on when the show will be released, though more info will be announced soon.

Because the new anime will adapt existing manga stories, it won’t show us the future of Fuutarou and the Nakano sibling that he marries.

This is a similar scenario to Horimiya, which also has a new anime coming that consists of skipped manga stories.
