Henry Cavill's Superman Return Faces Major Setback

Ever since the return of Henry Cavill as Superman in the post-credits scene of Black Adam, a lot of DC fans have been looking forward to seeing the next path for the actor in the franchise including the reported Man of Steel sequel that is currently in the works. However, you may want to hold your breath for now as it looks like there is a major setback on his return.

TheWrap has confirmed that there is no formal deal at the moment for Cavill to return to the DCU following his Black Adam appearance. In addition, there is also no director or writer attached at the moment to his next solo project despite previous reports that a search for the writer is already underway.

The report also revealed that there is no forward momentum right now on the project since newly-minted DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are still figuring out their long-term plan for the DCU, which may potentially be revealed in the next two months.

This new information should put down any rumors to rest that work is already underway for the alleged Man of Steel sequel that has been firing up the internet for weeks. While this might be disappointing to hear for some fans, it doesn't put down the possibility of the project still happening since the DC Studios heads are still mapping out their plans.

It also shouldn't worry fans who might be concerned that Cavill's return was just a one-off since he hasn't signed a new deal yet. Considering that the actor has publicly shared his excitement about returning to the role ever since the film's release, it is all but certain at this point that he will end up signing the deal once the new leadership of DC Studios figures out his next step.

For now, let's keep our patience and wait for official news from DC regarding the next step for the franchise (including Cavill's return) once Gunn and Safran have mapped out their long-term plan which we should be able to find out soon enough.
