Haikyuu the Movie: Battle of the Garbage Dump got a new visual featuring Kozume and Kuroo that celebrates the film’s box office success in Japan.
This new Haikyuu film is the first of a two-part movie that serves as the conclusion of Production I.G’s anime adaptation.
As it’s effectively the first half of the finale, it should come as no surprise that it has become a huge hit in Japan.
Haikyuu the Movie Celebrates Box Office Numbers with Special Kozume and Kuroo Visual
Haikyuu is one of the most popular shonen titles from Shonen Jump. While the manga became a big hit even early into its run, the anime adaptation helped boost its popularity both in Japan and internationally.
Given the show’s popularity, coupled with the fact that it has been years since the last anime season, fans in Japan flocked to cinemas when Haikyuu the Movie was released in November.
To celebrate the film’s success at the domestic box office, a new visual was released, featuring Nekoma High’s Kenma Kozume and Tetsuro Kuroo.
As two of Nekoma High’s most important characters, it makes sense that these two are front-and-center in the visual. After all, the film is about Karasuno High and Nekoma High’s highly anticipated match.

The Haikyuu Movie’s Box Office Success Compared to Other Big Anime Films
So, how successful is the new film? Since its premiere in Japan on February 16, the movie has earned over 8.26 billion JPY (around 52 million USD).
This makes the film Japan’s highest-grossing movie of 2024 so far, beating the previous record holder, Gundam SEED Freedom.
The movie has become successful enough that it even passed the Spy x Family Code: White box office (based on data from Box Office Mojo).
Of course, while the Haikyuu movie’s box office numbers are impressive for a sports anime, it’s not yet in the league of Japan’s highest-grossing anime films.
After all, films such as The First Slam Dunk and One Piece Film: Red have twice the box office earnings of the Haikyuu movie.

The film’s box office numbers are impressive, especially given that it has only been released in Japanese theaters for now.
As for a US release, the Haikyuu movie may eventually get a US release, but given that it’s not a big battle shonen, it might not get a wide theatrical run.
