Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Star Promises Not To Use Role For Cash Grabs Once James Gunn Is Gone

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being James Gunn’s last MCU project, it’s no secret that hailing the guardians under a different director wouldn’t feel right.

In fact, that’s exactly how Guardians star Chris Pratt feels once Gunn leaves Marvel.

Pratt looked up to Gunn so much that he defended and fought for the Guardians franchise director to return and helm his last Guardians of the Galaxy film.

And now, at the possibility of using Star-Lord with future projects involving spinoffs for the guardians without Gunn, Pratt promises he wouldn’t do such unless the original director is involved.

“It would be strange to continue [Star-Lord’s] story without James [Gunn].” Pratt admitted in a recent interview with Total Film (via Variety).

Pratt said, “We really found the voice of Peter Quill together and without him, obviously, I would never have had this opportunity… it’s his imagination on screen.”

The Star-Lord actor even added:

“So, to continue to tell the story, it would really be important to honor what he’s done in the first three films and to honor what the fans have grown to love about the character and not simply do it because people might show up to pay for it.”

Pratt has played Peter Quill / Star-Lord throughout the Guardians franchise since 2014.

Though he initially had doubts on playing the character and the series’ overall success, here he is now, proudly keeping his character close.

Not to mention, this is the role that is set to make MCU history and that is by dropping Marvel and Disney’s first ever uncensored F-bomb.

Pratt previously admitted that was NOT scripted nor was it initially meant to be included in the film, but given how “funny” it sounded, Gunn couldn’t resist.

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases in theaters on May 5.
