Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Reinstated James Gunn To Direct Thanks To Chris Pratt

One of the reasons James Gunn jumped to DC Studios was because of Marvel Studios firing him back in 2018.

For those unaware, Gunn was abruptly sacked by Disney after his old inappropriate tweets joking about rape and pedophilia surfaced, bringing MCU fans to petition him out of helming the franchise.

This struck a chord with the Guardians of the Galaxy cast, considering they have been working with Gunn from the very beginning of their MCU debut.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter shared new details on how Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) managed to bring back Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Pratt was the most loyal to Gunn, seeing as he spearheaded writing an open letter to Disney to reinstate the Guardians director for the last film for the trilogy.

Eventually, as THR reports, when Pratt learned Marvel was still using Gunn’s script for Vol. 3, the actor was quick to realize the good chance they had on pulling him back for the end of the franchise.

“I was like, ‘Oh, so we can use the script written by James Gunn, but we just can’t have him direct?’” Pratt said.

The Star-Lord actor added: “The script is so good that you’re going to be like, ‘Yeah, we had to get rid of [James Gunn] because we couldn’t associate with that man. But we will make his script.’”

Pratt’s statement rang truer than ever, especially since in spite of Marvel Studios and Disney cutting ties with Gunn, some of the MCU actors argue that losing the now DC Studios boss would be a huge loss to the company.

Pratt previously stated: “I was so thrilled, so excited. I think it’s the right move. I really stand behind it.”

“I’m really proud of Disney for hiring James back and ultimately thrilled not only for us, but also for the fans.” Pratt added, “I think it’s going to wrap up the trilogy in the best way.”

As Marvel boss Kevin Feige previously debunked, there is no bad blood between him and Gunn.

While this could possibly bring back Gunn for another ride with the Guardians, it remains to be seen for now.

James Gunn’s last Marvel project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, premieres on May 5.
