Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Retcons Lylla the Otter's Cameo in First Film

There is little doubt that Lylla the Otter is one of the characters that people were eager to meet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, this isn't the first time that Rocket's girlfriend was referenced and her debut in Vol. 3 actually retconned her the initial cameo in the 2014 film.

In the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Rocket's Xandrian rap sheet listed some known associates and the list actually included Lylla. The film suggests that she was a space bandit just like Rocket Raccoon. However, Vol. 3 has completely changed that.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it is revealed that Lylla was one of the High Evolutionary's creations who became friends with Rocket. But just as Rocket was setting them all free, the villain showed up and shot Lylla.

Lylla's death meant she never got to be a space bandit like Rocket. It also confirms that James Gunn somehow retconned the character's initial reference in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film.

Although Lylla, Teefs, and Floor never got to enjoy multiple adventures across the galaxy, the dream they shared finally came true for Rocket who longed to be reunited with his friends. However, destiny would have other plans for the raccoon.

It was already confirmed that Rocket Raccoon is the new leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy and his new team could eventually show up in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. With that in mind, we can't wait to see the new Guardians in action soon.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 brings back Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Maria Bakalova, and Sylvester Stallone.

Chukwudi Iwuji and Will Poulter join the cast as the High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock, respectively.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now screening in theaters worldwide.
