Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will premiere on May 5, 2023. Director James Gunn has been teasing a lot about the third movie in the franchise, saying the film will place everyone’s favorite raccoon, Rocket, in the spotlight.
We first met Rocket the Racoon in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie that came out on August 2014. He already had a strong bond with Groot, a tree-like alien who possesses extraterrestrial bark that makes him invulnerable to most projectiles. Little is known about Rocket’s story and how he ended up in prison, unlike the other Guardians, whose life stories were revealed in small chunks throughout the films.
By Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, the Guardians have been through so much as a team. Rocket, in particular, has lived a life without his chosen family. In the Infinity Wars, only Rocket and Nebula were spared from Thanos’ snap, enduring five long years before they got to see everyone back. Rocket may have been changed by the loneliness he faced.
Gunn teased that Vol. 3 will be the end of an era, saying that not all of the Guardians may make it out alive. This led fans to speculate about a Guardian’s potential death, with most people theorizing that Rocket may be the one to die.
If this is the case, we hope he is given the character arc he deserves.
The trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 debuted on December 2, 2022, with many scenes alluding to Rocket’s life before joining the Guardians. We even see him hugging an otter in a sweet reunion, but who is this mysterious otter?

Who is Lylla the Otter?
Lylla the Otter, or Lady Lylla, is an anthropomorphic otter from Halfworld. She is the heiress to the Mayhem Mekaniks, the largest toy company on their planet, but her parents were murdered by the evil mole Judson Jakes who took over the company.
Lylla was the most eligible bachelorette in her society, thanks to her allure and her huge sizeable fortune, which can only be accessed through marriage. In the comic book series, Jakes was opposed by the reptilian Lord Dyvyne, who built a rival toy company that drove Jakes away.
Rocket fought to keep Jakes and Dyvyne at bay, supporting Lylla in her battles. The couple teamed up with Wal Rus and a legion of robots to stop Jakes and Dyvyne’s plans.
After winning the battle, Rocket and Lylla fly off to space together.
