Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Just Broke A Major Record Ahead of Release

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 just broke a major record upon its movie trailer release at Super Bowl LVII!

While the Guardians of the Galaxy threequel has yet to premiere, Deadline reports that the Marvel trailer set a new record by garnering 134.1 million views across all social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook) within the first 24 hours of its debut.

DC’s The Flash came in at second with 97.4M viewers, while Fast X earned 94.1M. Although in the history of Super Bowl viewership, F9 was the last movie to have accomplished the feat back in 2020 (not nearly as 134.1M views as Guardians, though), despite the release happening prior to the pandemic.

Marvel Phase 5 is set to begin with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s release this week, and though the Rotten Tomatoes critic ratings on the threequel are not looking good, perhaps Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could set the record straight soon, seeing as it’s the last solo Guardians film from James Gunn, and it features Rocket the raccoon’s backstory as its central plot.

Now, amid the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the movie trailer featured a baby Rocket being carried off by Gamora after a clip of getting experimented on, as what Rocket’s previous stories have implied on his backstory. MCU fans have been speculating on a major character loss in this threequel, and fear has yet to be overcome unless the speculations are proven wrong.

There’s also another unexpected development in the Guardians 3 trailer and that is the potential “romantic interest” for Star-Lord: Nebula. While fans took it to heart at the thought of Star-Lord ‘almost immediately’ moving on from losing Gamora, we have yet to confirm if this love interest is deemed as an endgame for the Guardians or played off for comedic relief, as most MCU films do.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to premiere in theaters on May 5, 2023.
