The Marvel Cinematic Universe has no shortage of romantic pairings — from Wanda and Vision to Thor and Jane Foster but now, it seems like the billion-dollar franchise is set to welcome a new ship, and an unlikely one at that. The latest trailer for just Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 teased a romance plot between Star-Lord and Nebula and it's definitely piqued the interest of fans.

If you've been a longtime follower of the MCU, you're well aware that Peter Quill's love interest has always been Gamora but after the character returned (her 2014 version, that is) in Avengers: Endgame, things become complicated in a hurry between them.

Of course, given how she comes from a different timeline, Gamora has no recollection of her romance with Star-Lord but despite that, Quill has made it his mission to win her back. But it seems as though GOTG Vol. 3 will be setting up his potential with Gamora's sister Nebula as evidenced by the new trailer.

This possible romantic pairing which we'd like to refer to as "Nebu-Lord" comes as a huge surprise to fans and it's understandable how many of them share mixed feelings about this new MCU ship. On Twitter, the reception has mostly been negative although some are interested to see where it could lead. Check out some of the tweets below:

It'll be interesting to see if Nebula's potential romance with Star-Lord reignites the conflict between her and Nebula but I gotta say, it's quite refreshing to see Karen Gillan's character show a different side of herself.

Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is hitting cinemas on May 5, 2023.
