Guardians of the Galaxy: Drax Creator Believes Dave Bautista is Replaceable

Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has come out on several occasions to express his gratitude for the life-changing opportunity Marvel Studios has bestowed upon him but it's quite evident that the wrestler-turned-actor is growing increasingly unhappy with his position in the franchise. Just last month, Bautista shocked everyone when he claimed that his MCU tenure will be over after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, seemingly giving away the fate of his character.

Now, according to Drax's comic book creator, the Army of the Dead star is pretty much replaceable in the MCU and he wouldn't be shocked if Marvel Studios eventually went the route of recasting Bautista. In an interview with Inverse, Jim Starlin said that he understands the actor's reasons for wanting to call it quits following GOTG Vol. 3.

He said: "I can understand hitting 54 and not wanting to take your shirt off anymore. The Marvel Universe is going to keep trucking along and they found that they have made money on cosmic stuff. So they will more than likely are going to do more of it. There may be another Drax down the line; somebody else who hopefully has half the comedic timing of Bautista."

If Bautista does in fact leave the MCU after Vol. 3, there's a good chance that the film will actually revolve around him or at least feature Drax in a much more prominent role. I gotta say though, I don't think I'm ready to see the original Guardians lineup lose another original member but I'm hopeful that if Batista is on his way out, he'll be given a proper send-off because Dave doesn't deserve to be remembered by MCU fans as the comic relief guy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits cinemas on May 5, 2023.
