I may be in the minority here but I've always liked Dave Bautista's Guardians of the Galaxy character Drax the Destroyer. I say that because a lot of fans can't seem to take the character seriously and to them, he's nothing more than someone who is just there to deliver some hilarious one-liners which is a shame considering how awesome and menacing he was once presented.

The former WWE superstar has been a mainstay of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for close to a decade now and while Bautista is thankful for the opportunity Marvel Studios gave to him, it seems like he's growing increasingly unhappy with the way Drax is being handled in the franchise. In his interviews promoting his upcoming Netflix film Army of the Dead, Big Dave has opened up about his frustrations with the character, including how unbearable it is for him to portray him.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Bautista seemingly expressed that he's growing tired of his Marvel gig, and the fact that he has to sit for hours on the makeup chair just to put on Drax's prosthetics doesn't exactly appeal to the actor anymore. He says: "Well, I'm looking forward to being back with my friends. I like the camaraderie. I'm in a weird place with Drax because I've played Drax so many times, I'm on cruise control."

He added: "I love the character, but getting in the makeup, it's just a nightmare. I couldn't explain how awful it is. I hate to sound like one of those high-maintenance actors, but it's just traumatizing. Once I'm in it and I'm on set with my friends and making this character come to life and interacting with these characters that I love so much as a fan, it's all fun and joy."

Bautista ended his statement by hinting that Drax will soon end his MCU tenure. "Throughout the years, maybe because I've gotten older and more sensitive to it, it's become more unbearable, but the one thing I'm just looking forward to is closing out this journey of Drax."

It's quite sad that Drax has seemingly been relegated to a comic relief role when he could easily be one of the key players in the Guardians. Now, it's looking more and more evident that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could end up being Dave's final rodeo in the MCU. Hopefully, he goes out of the franchise on his own terms. I think we can all agree that he deserves that.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit cinemas on May 5, 2023.
