Goblin Slayer Manga Targeted By Texan Lawmaker for 'Obscene' Content

Goblin Slayer is facing a possible ban in Texas schools. A Texas lawmaker has singled out the manga for its "obscene" content and is promising to ban the title from the state.

The Houston Chronicle recently published a report asking Texas Republicans who aim at banning books to define pornography. In the report, the State's 66th district Republican representative Matt Shaheen cited the "Texas Penal Code Sec. 43.21." which "defines obscene materials as 'patently offensive representations or descriptions of ultimate sexual acts, normal or perverted, actual or simulated, including sexual intercourse, sodomy, and sexual bestiality.'"

Shaheen went on to state "specific examples found in public schools that align with the above definition include graphic images of women being raped by demons and little boys performing sexual acts on each other."

"Anyone who believes this is acceptable is mentally ill. We will be going after the vendors that sold this trash to Texas children," Shaheen said.

When asked further, Shaheen stated that he was talking about Goblin Slayer. However, he did not reveal which Texas schools had the title in their library.

It's not a surprise that lawmakers are against Goblin Slayer since the title is no stranger to controversy. However, it is a shock to know that the light novels or the manga are available in public school libraries in the US.

Goblin Slayer started out as a light novel by writer Kumo Kagyu and illustrator Noboru Kannatsuki. Kosuke Kurose adapted the story into the manga and it would later get an anime adaptation with the second season currently in production. It follows a man simply known as Goblin Slayer who saves a priestess when her adventuring party is attacked by goblins. Together, they journey to eradicate goblins.

For now, the second season of the Goblin Slayer anime has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
