Futurama: Will Bender Be Back For the Series Revival?

After signing off for almost a decade ago, Futurama is set to make a comeback on Hulu after the streaming platform ordered a 20-episode run for the classic animated comedy show. All of the original voice cast would return with Billy West as Fry, Katey Segal as Leela, along with Trees MacNellie, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, David Herman, and Maurice LaMarche given their extended deal already given a green light.

Someone is missing from the roster though, Bender. John DiMaggio is yet to finalize his deal to return to the show and it hasn’t been closed yet. Should the deal with DiMaggio would not push through, Bender would still remain in the story, however, the voice artist for him would be recast and definitely, Bender would not sound the same anymore.

No doors are closed just yet. The deal is still possible to push through between the parties and have DiMaggio voice Bender once more. The other possibility, though, would be a recast.

DiMaggio has given the voice of Bender since the inception of the show in 1999 when it first aired on Fox where Futurama has five seasons until its cancellation in 2003. It, then, had a rerun of its episodes on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim from 2003 to 2007. The show got a new home on Comedy Central from 2008 until it closed the curtains in 2013. Now, for its comeback, it would be on Hulu.

The show was created by Matt Groening, the creative mind behind The Simpsons, and he brought with him David X. Cohen. Futurama follows a professional slacker, Fry, who was cryogenically preserved for a thousand years and he woke up in the 31st century where he goes to work in an interplanetary delivery company, and there, he met and worked with one-eyed Leela and the “shiny metal ass” Bender.

Futurama is eyeing a comeback in 2023 on Hulu.
