A common complaint about Tohru Honda is that she's a bit too much like the typical female main character you would expect to see in any slice of life shojo work of the 90s and early 00s: bubbly, clumsy, and overly naive. But if Fruits Basket has shown as anything, is that no character is just their archetype. Yuki is much more than the prince of the school, Momiji shows maturity and wisdom you wouldn't expect from such a childlike character... you name it.

Fruits Basket Season 3 Episode 6 delves into Tohru's own wants and her past traumas. Normally, Tohru appears cheerful and willing to make any sacrifice for her friends - her decision to acknowledge her own feelings seems like a major turning point. Kyo is by her side as always, but what will happen when Tohru's open discussion about her grief wakes feelings he had long forgotten?

Kyo's reaction at the end of Episode 6 had many fans worry about him. If you're one of them, keep reading. Below you'll find our handy guy to be the first to catch up with Fruits Basket Season 3 Episode 7:

Fruit Basket Season 3 Episode 6 Recap

Warning: The synopsis below is to help you refresh your memory before Episode 6. If you have yet to watch Episode 6, you might want to skip to the next section: there will be spoilers below.

Fruits Basket Season 3 Episode 6 brought us a moment manga fans have been waiting for for years. The usually cheerful Tohru finally voices her feelings about Kyo - albeit not to Kyo himself. Tohru reunites with Rin, who is back together with Hatsuharu and recovering in the house of Kazuma, Kyo's foster father.

At some point, Tohru listens to Shigure and Rin talk about the zodiac curse. Rin expresses dismay at the missed opportunity to learn how to solve the zodiac curse from Ren, Akito's mother. Shigure rebukes her, telling her Ren herself did not know and finally revealing the truth: the curse will break on its own in due course. The fact that Kureno's curse broke early on without him trying anything proves this point.

Normally, not all 13 zodiac members are alive at the same time, so Shigure believes that he and the other cursed Sohmas came into the world at the same time because this is going to be one final banquet. Disregarding Tohru's feelings, he mentions that if Kyo's curse isn't broken by the time he finishes high school, he's going to be locked up. Shigure doesn't appear to care much about that, saying that the cat only exists to make the other zodiacs feel better about themselves.

Tohru leaves in dismay, but eventually returns and confesses to Rin that she's in love with Kyo, and she mostly wants to break the curse so that she can be with him. But she still has a lot to sort out where her feelings are concerned. It appears that so fat, Tohru refused to acknowledge her love for Kyo because she didn't want anything to detract from the love she feels for her dead mother. While these are totally different kinds of love, Tohru was afraid that if she pursued her feelings for Kyo, he would become the most important person in her life, overshadowing her mother's place in her heart.

After loving Kyo in secret for so long, Tohru finally understands that the comparison is pointless, although she's still too afraid to confess. She and Kyo share a tender moment and Tohru opens up about her grief not only for her mother but also for her father whom she rarely mentions. As she talks, however, flashbacks reveal that Kyo actually knew Tohru's mother, Kyoko. The last image we're left with is a flashback of her telling him that she will never forgive him. Who said slice of life anime can't have heartwrenching cliffhangers?
