Frieren Anime Shares New Visual Featuring Elven Protagonist

Frieren Anime Visual

While its premiere is still months away, a new visual for the upcoming fantasy anime Frieren was released, giving fans a better look at the anime’s protagonist.

Frieren may have still yet to show off the rest of the cast aside from quick glimpses in the teaser trailer, but fans can expect more new info in the coming weeks and months.

Though it’s not as well-known as shonen titles like Jujutsu Kaisen or even big isekai anime like The Eminence in Shdaow, Frieren’s unique fantasy premise is helping it get more attention.

When it comes to fantasy anime, most new shows today are of the isekai variety, to the annoyance of a certain section of the anime fanbase.

For fans that are tired of new isekai shows, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is an upcoming anime that many should check out. This is because it’s based on an acclaimed manga that’s been getting a lot of praise.

The series follows an elven mage named Frieren. Instead of following her in a quest against the world’s main villain, the series is set after Frieren and her party have vanquished the Demon King.

Specifically, the show’s main story happens fifty years after the party has defeated the Demon King. But because of Frieren’s long life as an elf, she returns to see her human companions have already aged.

Frieren is unique in many ways, though the fact that it’s set after the villain has been defeated is what makes it stand out. This also gives the series a wistful and somber tone.

While there’s no new trailer for it yet, a new visual featuring the main character was shared. Along with this, official character illustrations were also shared on the show’s official website.

The new visuals show Frieren’s youthful look. Despite how young she seems though, she is decades old as elves in this world also have long lifespans.

Aside from the new visuals, Frieren VA Atsumi Tanezaki also shared that she loves how her character looks and that she can’t wait for viewers to see the anime when it releases.

Tanezaki is an interesting casting choice, especially as she’s best known for voicing Anya Forger in Spy x Family. Though she has shown her range before as she is also the voice of My Hero Academia’s Lady Nagant.

The Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime will premiere in Fall 2023.
