Final Fantasy XV May Still Require Patches Despite Delay

Reaction to the delay of Final Fantasy XV has been divided at best. Some were annoyed because the wait has already taken almost a decade in total. Others were more forgiving as they would prefer a more complete game at launch.

According to Square Enix and game director Hajime Tabata, the delay was necessary to ensure that the necessary Day One Patch would be avoided. This ensures that gamers who may not have access for online updates can still enjoy the best game possible.

However, as per a new interview with Hardcore Gamer, Tabata seems to be hinting that there will still be some sort of patch coming to Final Fantasy XV.

"Whatever we can implement in the disc, we will implement in order to provide a full experience to those who purchase the game. That said, for people who do not have that network connectivity or an online environment, we will continue to deliver what is necessary through those means to people who have that accessibility. Whether that be any necessary patches or DLCs moving forward, they're two separate parts of the pod basically; one a full experience through the disc and what we can implement in the disc, and for those who have an online network connectivity, any additional support or DLCs that we can envision. So we're not dismissing the patches or the DLCs whatsoever."

From what Tabata said, it is possible that he may also be referring to "patches" as follow-up improvements for the game, and not just the Day One patch. Granted, players may have expected that everything else that will need improvements should have already been dealt with thanks to the delay.

There have been changes made to the master version of Final Fantasy XV since the delay. And the developer does seem to be aiming for a near-perfect delivery, if not yet, Hopefully, the experience in the base game shipping at launch will be complete enough as far as the full base offering is concerned.

There's also the issue of the Season Pass content anyway, though Tabata did not divulge any more information about this particular aspect. The team may be bent on finishing the base game first before moving on to any other additions via the DLCs, though Tabata reassured fans that there is already a plan in motion.

It's going to be a waiting game from now on, starting from launch date until post-launch content delivery.

Final Fantasy XV will be out on Nov.29 on the PS and Xbox One.
