During the recent Marvelous Game Showcase 2023 stream, the new game Project Magia was announced, and it features character designs by Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima.

Even without knowing that Mashima did the designs, the game’s characters already look straight out of Fairy Tail.

This fact was noticed by fans as they stated hilariously that Mashima simply reused his previous designs.

Of course, some defended Mashima, saying that other artists also do the same for their other works.

Game publisher and developer Marvelous is a company that is known for working on video games based on popular Japanese franchises.

For instance, Marvelous is the studio behind titles such as Fate/Extella, as well as the Monster Hunter Stories games.

Now though, Marvelous has announced its new game that’s currently called Project Magia.

Not much info was revealed during the showcase, though it was revealed that Hiro Mashima (of Fairy Tail and Edens Zero fame) is in charge of character designs.

During the presentation, Marvelous producer Takehiro Ishida revealed that this project has the theme of “A New Frontier.”

And while that’s a bit of a vague description, the initial character designs by Mashima were shared to give viewers a better idea of what to expect.

Specifically, the two main characters of the game were shared.

While Mashima’s art style is unmistakable, some fans remarked that his new designs look a bit too much like his previous works.

It’s fair to say that the main characters from Fairy Tail and Edens Zero share similar looks.

While this wasn’t an issue for many fans, some reacted that Mashima is getting away with reusing his designs again for Project Magia.

On Twitter, a thread saw several anime fans comment that Mashima pretty much draws the same two characters over and over again for his new projects.

But there were also those who defended Mashima by sharing other examples. For instance, Akira Toriyama’s characters from Dragon Quest also look a lot like his character designs for Dragon Ball.

Of course, most of these claims are done jokingly. While the new Project Magia designs look similar to Natsu and Lucy from Fairy Tail, it’s possible that the studio hired Mashima to make them so.

Marvelous promises to reveal new info about Project Magia soon.
