Fairy Tail 2nd Anime Film Revealed & Dated

The second film anime for the Fairy Tail franchise will finally come to theaters this year after a delay since May 2015.

This was announced in a new website for the film (via Anime News Network), and it also reveals the title of the movie. Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry, the new movie now has an official website, an official Twitter, and confirmation from Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima.

It looks like Fairy Tail will be continuing its great streak following the 10th year anniversary celebration from last year. Apart from the first anime movie Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess, the franchise has also enjoyed a number of OVA runs.

Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry appears to be a different project than the one announced back in early 2016. Since the anime TV series finally ended its run in March, Mashima had already tweeted that he was hard at work on a new series project that he himself was leading.

Of course, any anime fan would wish that this project is not some seasons' worth of filler material, especially given Fairy Tail's reach and fan base.

This year is turning out to be a good one for anime fans. Not only are there are a lot of sequels and follow-ups to long-awaited franchises—Gintama's newest run, Attack on Titan season 2, Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, and Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation, among others—there are also live-action movies and stage plays in store.

Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry is expected in Japan's theaters sometime in spring.
