Eternals Star Kumail Nanjiani Confirms 2019 Bomb Threat Halted Production

We're a month away from the premiere of Marvel Studios' Eternals and it's already promising to be quite a comic book film experience. Now, a lot of you may not be aware but the film's director Chloé Zhao actually requested the powers that be to make Eternals as practical as possible with minimal reliance on CGI in terms of locations and massive set pieces, including an actual spaceship set where actor Richard Madden got lost on so many times.

Another thing most of you may not have heard of is the production delay the project encountered in 2019. According to several reports, filming in the Canary Islands had to be postponed and rescheduled after crew members found a "metal thing" that turned out to be an unexploded bomb dating back to World War II. Actors Richard Madden and Angelina Jolie reportedly had to be evacuated as soon as they learned about the bomb scare.

Now, one of their co-stars Kumail Nanjiani is opening up about the surreal experience and confirmed that a bomb threat was responsible for delaying the film's production. Speaking with Empire Magazine, the MCU newbie opened up about the incident and apparently, some of the actors also found the unexploded bomb. He shared: "Some of the actors found this metal thing and were like, 'Hey, what's that?'... I remember being like, 'Guys why's the schedule changing? WHAT DO YOU MEAN, THERE'S A BOMB?!?"

Turns out Eternals had a pretty unique filming experience and while the circumstances they had to go through were pretty darn scary, I think it adds a lot to the overall thrill of the project which is actually quite refreshing because, for the longest time, studios have relied so much on CGI to the point where it became a little too excessive. Sure, it saves everyone the hassle not to mention a lot of money but you still can't beat practical effects, at least in my book.

Marvel Studios' Eternals will hit cinemas on November 5th.
