Emilia Clarke Plays Coy on Returning to Star Wars After Solo

You may know Emilia Clarke as the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, but she has also taken part in the Star Wars franchise, specifically as Qi’ra in the Han Solo stand-alone film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Now, while five years have passed since the 2018 film, Clarke opens up on the possibility of her return to the Star Wars franchise.

Recently speaking with IndieWire, the former Game of Thrones actress explains her fascination in playing fictional roles, specifically magical realism ones. Clarke shares how much she enjoys those kinds of scripts and stories, which could easily indicate her interest to jump back into the Star Wars franchise. Check out her full comment below:

“I absolutely adore high concept ideas and material.” Clarke said, “That’s the stuff I really enjoy reading as well, kind of magical realism. I think that’s where the joy of storytelling comes into its own, when you are able to give someone a world that is not our own to explore incredibly big philosophical ideas. To do as many of those as I possibly can, moving forward, would be excellent.”

When asked if she would be interested in reprising her role as Qi’ra from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Clarke declines the idea. If she were ever to return, she would gladly accept it, but for now, the actress is enjoying her time on Marvel.

“I mean…no,” Clarke said while laughing, “That would be lovely, that would be very nice. I’m genuinely having a wicked time on Marvel, though, they’re absolutely brilliant.”

The director of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ron Howard, did previously say that a Star Wars Solo sequel is entirely up to the company’s decision, seeing as even he is not sure where Disney+ would go with the story. For now, it seems that Emilia Clarke is focusing more on her Marvel project, Avengers: Secret Invasion, which is expected to debut sometime this year.

Meanwhile, Solo: A Star Wars Story is available to stream on Disney+.
