Elvis Director Reacts to Austin Butler's 'Terrifying' Dune Part 2 Look

We already got a very dark glimpse at Austin Butler's Feyd-Rautha in Dune Part 2 and it's a promising tease. But what does Baz Luhrmann have to say about his former star's new look? The Elvis director admitted that he thought it was "terrifying" to see the actor as a completely different character.

Baz Luhrmann worked with Austin Butler for almost two years as they filmed Elvis so he's accustomed to seeing the actor as Elvis Presley. So it's no surprise that the Moulin Rouge! director was shocked to learn Butler changed his look for Dune: Part Two.

Baz Luhrmann recently attended the 2023 Met Gala where he spoke to Variety about Austin Butler's new look in the actor's latest project.

"He might've snapped me a few snaps of him bald-headed earlier on," Luhrmann confirmed. "But I only saw the one from behind, what I thought was 'terrifying.'"

"What I also thought was 'It's so brave of him to take on such a radically-different character from Elvis," he continued. "It's a cleansing of the creative palate."

It's certainly a totally different role for Austin Butler and fans who got used to seeing him as Elvis Presley are sure to get whiplash when Feyd-Rautha's full look is revealed.

Although he's playing a character from a different planet, Austin Butler will continue to tap on to the rock star vibe in Dune: Part Two. Director Denis Villeneuve previously confirmed that Butler channelled another rock star for his new role.

“Austin Butler brought to the screen something that would be a cross between a psychotic, sociopath serial killer and Mick Jagger,” the filmmaker said.

The sequel will bring back Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. They will be joined by Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub, and Tim Blake Nelson.

Dune: Part Two is currently scheduled for theatrical release on November 3, 2023.
