There is little doubt that people are eager to see Paul Atreides as he learns more about his powers in Dune: Part 2. However, fans are also looking forward to the arrival of Feyd-Rautha in the highly anticipated sequel.
Not surprisingly, Denis Villeneuve is also excited about the Harkonnen prince's debut in the second movie. The director is hyping up Austin Butler's version of Feyd-Rautha in Part 2.
It's no secret that Feyd-Rautha is an intense character who was previously played by a rock star in David Lynch's 1984 adaptation. And although Sting did an awesome job, Villeneuve told Vanity Fair that Austin Butler drew on the presence of a completely different rock star.
“Austin Butler brought to the screen something that would be a cross between a psychotic, sociopath serial killer and Mick Jagger,” the filmmaker said.
That might sound kind of cool but the character is someone that everyone, especially Paul Atreides, should be wary of. Feyd-Rautha is a terrifying villain, even more ruthless than Dave Bautista's Glossu Rabban.
“He’s someone Machiavellian, much more cruel, much more strategic, and is more narcissistic,” Villeneuve says of Feyd-Rautha.
Austin Butler had previously expressed his admiration for Denis Villeneuve's works and his excitement about being a part of Dune: Part 2.
"Denis is one of my favorite filmmakers and just an amazing human being. He's so kind and I'm a fan of every one of those actors in the film, so I felt really honored," he said.
Butler added, "It's really surreal. You feel sort of like a kid in a, you know like in your favorite film, it's like walking onto the set of any film that you admire as a kid. Like walking on to Indiana Jones or something like that ... Movies that really impact you as a kid, that's how I felt."
Dune: Part 2 is currently scheduled for theatrical release on November 3, 2023.
