Dr. Stone Season 3 Debuts With Hilarious Minecraft Reference

Dr. Stone Minecraft Season 3 Senku

Dr. Stone: New World finally had its long-awaited premiere with the release of Episode 1, and it featured an unexpected reference. Specifically, parts of Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 1 featured hilarious Minecraft references.

Take note, these references weren’t just simple allusions to the video game. Instead, several scenes of the first episode were animated in the style of Minecraft, transforming Senku and company into Minecraft characters.

While this was certainly an unexpected and funny touch to the episode, it’s a fitting crossover.

After all, Dr. Stone has been compared to Minecraft by fans for years now.

Dr. Stone's premise is unique to Shonen Jump standards as it is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have been petrified for over 3,000 years.

The series then begins when Senku Ishigami wakes up and finds that the entire human civilization is gone.

He then sets up a base camp to study how the petrification happened, and he soon sets out to rebuild civilization.

Given that most episodes see Senku and company explore and rebuild, it was inevitable that the series would get compared to the ever-popular game, Minecraft.

Even back in 2019, there have been discussions about the anime essentially being Minecraft.

While many agreed, some believed that Dr. Stone is closer to 4X games like Civilization.

But now, the anime’s staff has confirmed that they know of these Minecraft comparisons as Season 3’s first episode featured overt references to the game.

Episode 1 may not be the most exciting in terms of action, but it does set up the upcoming events in the current arc.

Despite the lack of action, the show got a lot of buzz online for its hilarious Minecraft scenes.

Specifically, during the exploration segments of the episode, the animation style abruptly changes in some scenes to look almost exactly like Minecraft.

This happens throughout the episode unexpectedly, adding to how funny they are.

Typically, animation changes like these are made as post-credits scenes (like with NieR: Automata Ver1.1a), so it’s hilarious that the staff members decided to add them to the main parts of the episode.

Aside from these scenes, many fans were happy overall with the new episode’s direction.

Because of this, there’s more excitement for the show as it progresses during the season.

New episodes of Dr. Stone: New World are released every week on Crunchyroll in the US and other selected regions.
