You can call Peter Parker a lot of things but surely, a ladies’ man isn't one of them. And despite how great his superhero persona is, when he falls in love, he still has to muster up the courage to get past his "nerdy" reputation just to ask a girl out on a first date.

Now, we all know that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is not the first Spider-Man to exist on the big screen, but he is the main friendly neighborhood web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though.

Considering that both Sony’s Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield) had had their own love interests, both MJ and Gwen, who will the Spider-Man end up with in the MCU?

Why Did Peter Parker’s Love Interest Change From Liz To MJ?

The MCU introduced Peter Parker as having a little crush on Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Allan (played by Laura Harrier).

Peter has been liking Liz in secret by staring from afar, and for taking any potential chances he could to get closer to her.

One of those chances is being on the Midtown Science High School’s decathlon team where Liz is team captain.

While Peter usually screwed up in impressing Liz such as failing to show up on time, he did manage to save her from a falling elevator on the decathlon trip. But then again, that was him as Spider-Man. So, totally different case.

Although Peter did end up getting to ask Liz to homecoming, he failed to show up as her date, since he was fighting against the Vulture, otherwise known as Liz’s father, Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton).

That wouldn’t have worked in the long run for Peter and Liz.

Plus, by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Liz and her family were planning to move to Oregon, and a long-distance relationship wouldn’t have worked for these two youngsters.

The key thing to remember here is that Peter is pretty much like every teenage boy who easily develops a crush on some girl.

Besides, they were still in high school when he met Liz, so what’s stopping him from looking for his next potential love interest, right?

At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, MJ (Michelle Jones-Watson, not Mary Jane Watson) becomes the new captain of their school’s decathlon team.

When Peter Parker was about to take his call to meet up with Happy somewhere, MJ teased him, “What are you hiding, Peter?”

It was a short and brief moment between them, but this definitely built up his crush on her by the next film, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Although Peter Parker and MJ had gone off to a rough start, what with Peter thinking MJ just wanted to see if her gut was true, that he was Spider-Man, the two eventually hit it off.

It was right after Peter fought Mysterio when he decided to confess his feelings to her and even gave her the Dahlia necklace he bought for her on their trip.

To that, MJ simply kissed him, confirming she felt the same about him. But it wasn’t as easygoing and as steady when Spider-Man: No Way Home happened.

With Mysterio unveiling Spider-Man’s true identity, the people were enraged, convinced that the web-slinger had murdered an ‘innocent’ man on television.

It caused a lot of chaos, not just with Peter dating MJ, but even in their college applications. So, Spider-Man sought out Doctor Strange’s help, which the Sorcerer Supreme obliged to.

Unfortunately, a bigger chaos emerged as they practically opened up the Multiverse trying to make people forget about Spider-Man.

By the end of No Way Home, Peter has to make a sacrifice by letting everyone around him forget about him and his superhero identity as Spider-Man.

This includes MJ, his best friend Ned, and every other existing MCU hero who had known him.

A fourth Spider-Man film should be underway, considering the cliffhanger of where things left off in Peter Parker’s life. So, what could this mean for his love life?

This means two things: either Peter still ends up with MJ by restarting their romance or he finds a new love interest in college. Perhaps a Gwen Stacy?

But this would have to wait until Marvel decides to release a Spider-Man 4 teaser or trailer.
