Doctor Strange Spinoff Show Rumored To Be In Development

Even though Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness clearly sets up a sequel film, a Doctor Strange 3 announcement has yet to be made from Marvel and Disney. However, a new rumor is arising that a Doctor Strange spinoff show focusing on Wong and America Chavez is possibly in development at Marvel Studios, based on the Strange Academy comics.

No one can deny that the chemistry between Wong (Benedict Wong) and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) remains visible given the actors getting along even off camera, so a Doctor Strange spinoff show focusing on their characters will be a huge blast for MCU fans! Besides, Chavez is going to need all the training she can get to hone her powers to its fullest potential.

According to Tales from the Mod Queue on Reddit (via The Direct), the spinoff show is rumored to be based on the Strange Academy comics by Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos where, as the title implies, Doctor Strange and fellow magic users such as Brother Voodoo, Magik, and the Scarlet Witch train up-and-coming magician heroes in honing their skills.

What Strange Academy Could Be About

Now, the series is set to focus on Wong and America Chavez, along with Zelma Stanton, who is reportedly being introduced in the Ironheart show. There is no doubt that a show centering the Sorcerer Supreme is the right way to go, given that we have yet to see a more in-depth story on his background character and his abilities as Sorcerer Supreme.

With the additional seemingly “sidekick” or buddy America, the show is bound to have the common trope where we get to see two unlikely individuals eventually getting along amid their banters. Whether this spinoff is included in the MCU timeline or as an extra special series for MCU fans to enjoy remains to be seen. However, it is possible that it will be included in the timeline if Strange Academy were to also include building the Young Avengers team starting with Billy Maximoff (Billy Kaplan/Wiccan to be played by Joe Locke in Agatha: Coven of Chaos).

For now, Marvel starts Phase Five with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania set to hit theaters on February 17, 2023.
