The National Treasure series is one of the many highly-anticipated shows arriving in Disney+. Based on Nicolas Cage's film series released on 2004 and 2007, the Disney+ show is set to continue the same intricate treasure-hunting narrative led by Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) from the previous films. Now, at San Diego Comic-Con, Disney finally unveiled the first look at National Treasure: Edge of History, featuring Jess Morales (Lisette Olivera) as the new treasure hunter.
See the official teaser of National Treasure: Edge of History below:
The Disney+ show centers on Jess Morales, a brilliant 20-year-old DREAMer who set off to recover a lost Pan-American treasure while also unraveling her family's secrets and history.
Alongside Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones will star as Billie, a "badass billionaire, black-market antiquities expert," Lyndon Smith will be playing FBI Agent Ross, and Zuri Reed will star as Tasha. Amazingly, Harvey Keitel will reprise his role from the first National Treasure films as Peter Sadusky, while Justin Bartha will return as Ben's best friend and computer-savvy sidekick Riley Poole.
Is Nicolas Cage returning as Benjamin Gates in Disney+'s National Treasure series?
Sadly, Cage's return as the amazing Benjamin Gates remains a mystery at this point. However, at the San Diego Comic-Con event, National Treasure executive producer Marianne Wibberley admitted that they absolutely wanted Cage to return, but the actor is very occupied with other projects, as reported by Variety. While lead star Olivera hopes that Cage can still return once the show gets a second season.
Disney hasn't yet announced an official release window for National Treasure: Edge of History, but fans can expect it to arrive later this year or early 2023 in Disney+.
