The highly awaited TV adaptation of the popular Nicolas Cage movie will be called National Treasure: Edge of History, according to Disney's National Treasure Twitter account.

The film's producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, first announced his intention to make a third film in early 2020, and then a few months later, he disclosed his plans for a series. In 2020, the pilot script for the eagerly awaited Disney+ series was completed, and it now appears that the project is prepared to move forward.

Will Cage be a part of the long-awaited Disney series when it eventually begins to take shape? Here is what we currently know.

Will We See Nicolas Cage in National Treasure: Edge of History?

We are aware that Justin Bartha, who portrayed the witty and sardonic Riley in the two movies, has an appearance in National Treasure: Edge of History. Breeda Wool and Lyndon Smith are listed as appearing with Bartha in all 10 episodes of the show on its IMDb page.

IMDb's synopsis is as follows:

“A Hispanic Latina-American lead character named Jess Morales, who is a 20-year-old DREAMer, sets off on an exploration to discover the mystery of her family history, and with the help of her friends seeks to recover historical lost treasure.”

The actor who plays Jess is not included on the page, nor is Cage among the cast and crew. Furthermore, Cage's IMDb page does not list National Treasure: Edge of History as one of his projects.

That doesn't exclude him from making a cameo or guest appearance in multiple episodes. Disney tends to keep cameos, and big-name guest stars in Disney+ shows under wraps.

Fans Rally for Third National Treasure Movie

Cage fans were ecstatic to hear about the third National Treasure film when Bruckheimer made the announcement. Even though the previous two movies' stories were a tad unrealistic, they both turned out to be commercially and critically successful fan favorites.

According to Box Office Mojo, the 2004 film National Treasure made $347.5 million worldwide. However, it only has a freshness rating of 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, and on IMDb, the movie has the same 6.9 rating as Nicolas Cage's Con Air.

The 2007 film National Treasure: Book of Secrets earned $459.2 million worldwide, although it only had a 36% fresh rate and a 6.5 IMDb rating.

Will the long gap between films be a problem? No, not always. After a 36-year wait, Bruckheimer helped bring Top Gun: Maverick to the big screen, giving Tom Cruise his first billion-dollar blockbuster. After a 13-year gap, Avatar: The Way of Water has generated a lot of buzz.

Although Nicolas Cage does not appear in National Treasure: Edge of History, it appears that fans are eager to see him reprise his role as Benjamin Gates.
