Did Thor Really Kill Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder?

From one god to another, Thor have high regards to Zeus. He revealed that he idolize the god of lightning since he was young but all his hopes shattered when Zeus rejected helping them save the children of Asgard who were held captive by Gorr the God Butcher.

It turns out Zeus was not really a helpful god. He wanted to assure every other god around him that there was no threat like what Thor was saying and he even left an insult to Thor that the problem of Asgard was never theirs to help resolve.

Of course, Thor couldn't bear hear those words from a god he looked up to. His home was insulted in front of others and he couldn't forgive that. Knowing that they need the lightning bolt of Zeus, they stole it from him and Thor did the unimaginable: he commanded the bolt to fly through Zeus who fell from his platform.

Thor and his team could easily assume that Zeus already died but in the post-credits scene, it was revealed that he didn't. Surely, a god cannot be killed off as easy as that. The gods are immortal and it could take a whole cavalry to bring one down, unless, that is, if it was really their time to die.

The first post-credits scene, Zeus' servants are tending to him while he lays down with a burned chest and chest plate. He is talking about how the people would need to fear the gods again and it turns out he is conversing with his own son, Hercules.

With what transpired between Zeus and Thor, it could be implied that Hercules will start as a villain if there would be Thor 5 but it is possible, too, that he'd turn out to be a hero in the end. In the Marvel comics, Hercules goes head to head with Thor, changing from a villain to hero to a villain again then a hero once more.

Will Zeus return in future MCU projects?

Thor: Love and Thunder is now in theaters worldwide.
