In 2020, Mugen Train became the highest-grossing film ever in Japan, so it’s not surprising to see that the Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Episode 1 release in cinemas also debuted at number one at Japan’s box office.

While Swordsmith Village is the next season of the TV anime, a special cut of its first episode will be released in cinemas all over the world in a special Demon Slayer world tour.

The world tour kicked off in Japan recently, with a special event that happened on February 4 and 5.

Though before that, over 400 theaters in Japan screened the special movie cut of the first episode.

Specifically, this release features the 10th and 11th episodes of the Entertainment District arc combined with the first episode of the Swordsmith Village arc.

During its opening, the movie dominated Japan’s box office. Not only did it debut at the number 1 spot, but it also earned over 1 billion yen (around USD 7.5 million). This just goes to show how big Demon Slayer still is in Japan.

As it has only been released in Japan so far, not a lot of reactions are out yet.

However, based on a recent discussion on Reddit’s r/KimetsuNoYaiba, it seems that the first episode does not deviate much from the source material.
