The anime series is based on the manga created by author Koyoharu Gotōge. The anime made its debut in 2019 and has become one of the highest-grossing media franchises throughout history. Its movie, entitled Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, managed to surpass Studio Ghibli's box office record in Japan as it was named the highest-grossing movie in the country.
