In one of the scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer, it was shown that Drax was shot in what seems like a prison and he was being escorted by Gamora and Mantis while a fight is going on behind them. While that confirms that the Guardians reconnect with Gamora, it also hinted something drastic for Drax.

The death of Drax may have already been confirmed by Dave Bautista, the actor playing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in a recent interview with GQ as he reveals that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his final appearance as Drax.

Bautista reveals, "I'm so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there's a relief [that it's over]. It wasn't all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down."

Bautista adds, "I just don't know if I want Drax to be my legacy—it's a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff."

In the comics, Drax is quite hard to kill given his regenerative abilities that saved him from near-death experiences but in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems that Drax only has a sliver of his powers from the original source material.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may be the last everyone will be seeing Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and he may possibly be one of the deaths in the film. The other death rumored to happen is that of Rocket's but nothing is confirmed yet.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see the return of Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer together with Chris Pratt as Star-Lord/ Peter Quill, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, with the voices of Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Vin Diesel as Groot.

Aside from the original roster of the Guardians, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also have Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog, and the debut of Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary, and Daniela Melchior and Nico Santos in undisclosed roles.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set for release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
