Daisy Ridley's Emotionally Intense Audition Teased In New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Clip

The home release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to arrive in a few days and one of the most exciting features is the 70-minute Secrets of The Force Awakens documentary that will reveal an in-depth look into the movie’s production process.

It’s not like fans need any more convincing to be excited about the DVD/Blu-ray copy, but the new The Force Awakens clip will just about sell it.

The new clip was shared by BuzzFeed today. It focuses on the casting process of choosing Rey and how Director J.J. Abrams and the casting heads chose Daisy Ridley for the role and why.

Abrams said:

What we were looking for was someone new. This character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet and terrified. And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking. It wasn’t until we found Daisy that we just felt like she was capable of doing all of these things this character required.
She just blew my mind. She’s reaching this depth of struggle, and tears are streaming down her face, I thought, ‘This is unbelievable.’

It includes a behind-the-scenes peek of Ridley’s audition involving the scene where Rey is interrogated by Kylo Ren.

After watching the clip, it’s quite obvious why there’s no question the 23-year-old Brit actress was chosen to play Rey.

Personally, that audition gave me chills. I’m sure other actresses can pull off a good cry in auditions, but I think Ridley embodies Rey inside and out from her sweet and attentive interaction with fans and how she’s able to empower people just by a simple response to body shamers.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be available on Digital HD on April 1 and on Blu-Ray/DVD on April 5.
