Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Responds To ‘Real Women Have Curves’ Comment

Daisy Ridley has quickly risen to the spotlight since playing Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Rey is widely celebrated not just because she's the main character in the latest installment of the beloved space opera series, but also because she's a strong, independent, and confident female character who doesn't rely on anybody to save her.

The 23-year-old actress has received a lot of praises and well-wishes since December, but there's apparently one Instagrammer who thinks Ridley has set "unrealistic expectations" for young girls.

The user posted a photo of Ridley as Rey with the quote "I can't believe the unrealistic expectations I'm setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don't they know real women have curves?" The photo has been deleted.

Ridley first responded by saying that "real women are all shapes and sizes," then she explained her response further on Instagram in a lengthy and very well said comment on celebrating each other and on kindness.

Ridley is spot on with her comment. While it's unavoidable seeing such insight in the world today where hate is easily thrown out on social media, it's still unfortunate seeing complaints like that. Daisy did well in her explanation and hopefully, the commenter will accept Ridley's point and just celebrate all kinds of real women.

Daisy Ridley will star in the next installment of the latest Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
