Constantine 2's Rumored Cancellation Debunked by New Report

When DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran did not mention the previously-announced Constantine 2 film with Keanu Reeves when they announced the DC Elseworlds projects during their DCU slate presentation last week, there have been concerns about whether the movie will still happen.

After all, it's only been a couple of months since the project was first officially reported. For the past few days, there have also been rumors that the project has been shelved although the studio remains mum about its actual status at that time.

Now, we have a new official update on the current status of Constantine 2 thanks to a recent report from Entertainment Weekly. They reported that a spokesperson from Warner Bros. has confirmed that the project is still in the works and it has not been scrapped.

This should ease up the concerns of fans who have been wondering about its status ever since Gunn and Safran announced the DCU slate and did not comment about the project's status. For now, we can still look forward to it until the DC Studios chiefs will say otherwise in the future.

Besides Reeves, who is reprising the titular role, Francis Lawrence is also returning to direct the sequel. Akiva Goldsman, who co-produced the first film, is writing the screenplay and will also produce it alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella. It is unknown whether it will be part of the DC Elseworlds line-up.

Since it's also been a couple of months since the project was first announced, we should be hearing more news and updates about the film at some point in the future and it would be interesting whether Warner Bros. and DC Studios will keep the project or they'll eventually shelve it later on.

We do know that Gunn and Safran are working on a Swamp Thing movie which could potentially have some tie-ins with the character of John Constantine. It remains to be seen whether this project will have some connection to that.
